Our commitment goes beyond simply raising pasture raised poultry. We strive to be good stewards of our farm and to make thoughtful choices at every step of the process.
Humane Care Comes First
Our birds are raised on pasture, where they have room to move, forage, scratch, dust-bathe, and express their natural behaviors. We believe healthy animals are the foundation of good food, and we take their health, comfort, and well-being seriously throughout their lives.
We handle our birds with care and provide them with appropriate shelter, fresh water, nutritious feed, and access to the outdoors. We believe that humane treatment isn't an added feature of our farming practices—it is a responsibility.
Better Feed, Better Choices
Our poultry is fed certified organic, GMO-free feed. We believe what our birds eat matters, both for their health and for the quality of the food we provide to your family.
Choosing organic and GMO-free feed is one of the ways we work to be intentional about the inputs that go into raising our poultry.
Caring for the Land
Pasture based poultry production allows our birds to interact directly with the land while contributing to a healthy farm ecosystem. Their natural behaviors help distribute nutrients across the pasture, while thoughtful management of where and how birds are raised helps us protect soil health and minimize unnecessary environmental impact.
We continually look for ways to make our farm more sustainable, from how we manage our pastures and animals to the inputs we choose and the resources we use.
Certified Naturally Grown
Borrie Wilson Farm is proud to be Certified Naturally Grown (CNG). At this time, we are the only Certified Naturally Grown livestock operation in Pennsylvania.
Certified Naturally Grown is a grassroots certification program designed for small-scale farmers. It uses rigorous standards based on organic farming principles, including requirements surrounding animal welfare, prohibited inputs, and responsible farming practices. Certification includes peer inspections and accountability within the farming community.
While USDA Organic certification is a federally regulated program with specific requirements and certification through accredited certifying agencies, Certified Naturally Grown was created specifically to provide a practical, transparent certification option for smaller farms. CNG farms follow organic standards appropriate to their operation and participate in peer-to-peer inspections, creating a direct connection between farmers and the people who hold them accountable.
For our customers, CNG certification provides an additional level of transparency and assurance that our farming practices are being held to a recognized set of standards and not simply based on our word.
